Nashville West

The Tennessean has a story on the forthcoming Nashville West shopping center in today's edition. Planned stores include Costco, Target, Old Navy, Dick's Sporting Goods and Best Buy. The story doesn't say when the other stores will open, but Costco is scheduled to be up and running before the end of the year.

I'm glad to see the old shopping center replaced with new development because it was definitely an eyesore, in my opinion, but I know there are also concerns about how the new shopping center will affect nearby H.G. Hill Park. (For those who haven't noticed it while driving down Charlotte or I-40 West, the new development is gradually emerging here.)

One thing I'm a little puzzled about is why Target is opening a store in the center, only two miles away from the location it just renovated on White Bridge Road. Corporations don't toss grass in the wind to make site selection decisions, so I'm sure they've spent a lot of time thinking about this.

I also wonder if this center will wipe out Bellevue Center once and for all. It's essentially taking away the Old Navy store that was in the mall not long ago.

I was wondering the samething about the Target, especially since the White Bridge Rd. Target was just remodeled. I was hoping for a better grocery store. The Kroger on Charlotte needs an upgrade like the West Meade Kroger - which I find myself going to instead of Charlotte Park - though it is closer. A Publix would be nice.

  2. I completely agree. There are plans to build a Publix and a Harris Teeter across the street from each other near Harding Road and White Bridge Road, so that's good news.

Cosco is a welcomed addition so we don't have to drive to Cool Springs!

  4. When I worked in Raleigh, the Super Target Greatland was very large like a Super Walmart with a full blown grocery store and wine store.

I wonder the same, but the White Bridge location pales in comparison to what I've seen. I guess the same questioning goes for WalGreens - it's all about market share against WalMart, I suppose.

I trust that Bellevue and West Nashville can support the new Target; and Sylvan Park / West End can support the White Bridge location.

  5. Thanks, Kerry. Is the Target going in at Nashville West a Super Target? I would be very excited if that's true. That's a different offering, and it would make sense with another Target relatively close by.

For me, the new Target (super or not) is almost exactly the same distance as the one on White Bridge Road (it's down to the tenth of a mile from my driveway, according to Google Maps), so my choice will either depend on 1) the new one being Super Target or 2) my mood the day I go. ;)

I'm sure there's enough income to support both locations. It just seems weird if they're both human, mortal Targets and not Super Target.

What Nashville West really needs is a gym, like Gold's Gym, and a movie rental store in the area. This is a NEED!

  7. Hopefully the revitalization of this shopping center will lead to more new businesses. I have a feeling that this area will change substantially with the opening of the full slate of stores.
