Pick up after your pets

Pet owners (that includes me), take note: A neighbor wrote this week to ask that neighbors make a more concerted effort to pick up waste while walking their dogs:
"[O]wners [need to] pick up after their dogs when they walk them... It seems that many use our alleys as toilets, which is not only smelly and disgusting, it's potentially hazardous... I have asked several people to clean up the pet messes and even provided a bag a time or two. Since we live near McCabe Park, we get a lot of people who walk by with their dogs. I have dogs as well and would not even consider taking them out without appropriate bags.
This is good neighborly advice, and it's the law. Please remember to pick up after your pets!

I agree. I have seen on a few occasions, an older gentleman walking a big black dog that could be a rottweiler. One evening, I saw them a few blocks away walking in the street and his dog looked to be doing its business. When I finally made it to that spot, his dog had pooped in the middle of the street and he didn't clean it up. I didn't see which way he went to say anything. Disgusting.
