Put A Sign On It: Park-Elkins Historic District Becomes Official

On Saturday, July 20th, the Park Elkins Historic District in Sylvan Park became official, at least now officially marked by a sign. Wendell Goodman, President of Historic Sylvan Park, Jason Holleman, Councilmember for Sylvan Park, and Chris Veit, chair of the sign committee, joined in the dedication of the Park Elkins Historic District in Sylvan Park, as the new sign was unveiled at the corner of Park and 46th. The establishment of the historic district and conservation overlay has been a two year long project. The original dedication of Sylvan Park in 1887 was marked by a cannon shot, according to Veit. While no cannon was present at this dedication, the establishment of the historic district is an important moment in Sylvan Park history.
